COP has new leader

Carolyn Seepersad-Bachan

Former San Fernando West MP, Carolyn Seepersad-Bachan has taken up reins as the new leader of the Congress of the People.

The COP has often been pronounced a dead party after having significant support in the 2007 general elections and serving as part of a coalition government from 2010 to 2015. Yesterday’s voter turn-out was low.
Seepersad-Bachan has served as Minister of Energy and Minister of Public Administration between 2010 and 2015.

How great is the attraction of political office that nobody who once was a big sawatee no matter how ineffectual wakes up one morning and says you know what I’m going to spend my time volunteeering at the nearest orphanage/ cancer center / women’s refuge / children’s charity …. but instead says what office I can run for?

I don’t think volunteerism occurs to many here.
